  • No Written Form: A vast number of these languages have never been transcribed because they were traditionally passed down orally. This lack of a written form complicates the documentation process, as we must capture not only vocabulary and grammar but also the oral traditions, stories, and songs that define these languages.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Engaging with communities requires respect for cultural norms and practices. Sometimes, speakers are reluctant to share their language due to past exploitation or fear of losing cultural identity. Building trust is essential but can be time-consuming.
  • Logistical Barriers: Reaching these communities often involves complex logistics, from travel to remote areas to providing the right recording equipment that can handle the nuances of human speech in diverse environments.
